[Purpose/significance] This paper studies the theoretical basis and misunderstanding of the rationality review of library reading promotion.The purpose is to build theoretical system,recognize theoretical position of reading promotion, and more consciously develop reading promotion of library.The paper has important theoretical and practical significance. [Method/process] To carry out rationality review to library reading promotion, it analyzes the three main reasons for which reading promotion is rationality by librarianship.It discusses three types of reading promotionin contact with library service:core mission of librarianship, not mission but can to be, and can not to be. [Result/conclusion] Library reading promotion is innovation service, but still needs rationality review. Librarianship should vigorously develop reading promotion that can improve reading willingness and reading ability, promote cultural entertainment and space services to link to reading and learning, and refuse to "reading promotion" that isn't belonging to the modern library idea.
