[Purpose/significance] In recent years, with the vigorous development of China's library industry, the discussion of this profession has not stopped, but the development of the industry association of the librarians is less concerned. This study hopes to better understand the development and characteristics of the library associations in Japan, so as to promote the development of the library associations in china.[Method/process] To analyze the development and characteristics of Japan library associations, this paper uses literature survey and content analysis method focusing on the general situation and mode of development of Japan Library Association, Japan School Library Association, Japan Association of National University Libraries, Japan Special Libraries Association, and Japan Medical Library Association,then summarizes its characteristics.[Result/conclusion] And it puts forward the following enlightenment:turning society to the associations, developing autonomy and mediation, perfecting industry association system, strengthening internal management and construction, and expanding the functions of the association.
