Abstract

[Purpose/significance] This paper explores the Altmetrics' essence from the view of Altmetrics' origination and the motivation of science. [Method/process] Using the literature review method, combined with logic and theoretic analysis, we systematically organize and analyze the research on Altmetrics at home and abroad. We classify the comments content on academic paper from social media, and the classification is the base of Altmetrics content analysis. [Result/conclusion] The existing researches focus on explaining Altmetrics' indicators while ignoring to interpret the contents. Through content analysis of altmetrics' tools, we can know how the academic research influences the public. Therefore, it has the significance to understand Altmetrics' essence and impact of academic research on the public.
