[Purpose/significance]With the development of tertiary education continuously progressing towards globalization and openness, digitalization, intelligence, ubiquity, and mobility in teaching, scientific research, and learning are becoming increasingly apparent.[Method/process]With literature reviews and case analysis, this paper explored the reconstruction of the user service system in academic libraries and the development trend of user services. To satisfy users' increasingly diversified needs for information, academic libraries are continuously extending user service functions, and gradually transitioning and repositioning from libraries that provide lending services for books and periodicals to being centers of learning, teaching services, knowledge, and culture on campus.[Result/conclusion]With functional repositioning, academic libraries are exploring new models and approaches in user services, and gradually constructing more systematic and diversified user service systems by improving basic services, deepening the support services for scientific research, extending services in teaching assistance, boosting services for cultivating humanistic literacy, developing spatial services, expansion of new technical services, and exploring new services. During above-mentioned processes in transformation and development, there has been an obvious trend of change in terms of the concept, pattern, contents, highlights, marketing and cooperation of user services.
