Abstract

[Purpose/significance] Promoted by the successful establishment of many network platforms, crowdfunding has gained its attention and acceptation these years, and its prosperity has affected many industries, including library world. Effects have also been made to apply it to the library development. By studying former practices of home and abroad, the article tried to find its crucial elements, and proposed practicable strategies for further development of native libraries based on crowdfunding. [Method/process] Based on websites investigation, the study retrieved crowdfunding projects on library development from foreign and domestic mainstream network platforms as samples, and analyzed these samples in five aspects, including the creators, the project contents, the fund raising, the time limits and the rewards. Enhanced by literature reviewing, the study seized the history and current situation of crowdfunding. [Result/conclusion] The article clarified the crucial elements of library development based on crowdfunding, and pointed out that projects of this kind have the features of initiative, convenient, transparent and interactive. The article also proposed strategies for operating these projects, including taking crowdfunding as propaganda, advertising projects by various means, setting reasonable payback, emphasizing backers' participation and stimulating people's enthusiasm.
