For journals, there is a mutually strengthening mechanism among their academic influence, peer review criterion of manuscripts, and the academic influence of published articles. The citation from a journal with higher academic influence should have higher value in journal evaluation. And since authors select journals to cite and to publish their articles, the journals with lower academic influence are less frequently cited. So the academic influence of a journal could be evaluated by examining the citing frequency and corresponding academic influence of its citing journals which constitute its own citation image. Taking the journal citation images in 2010 of two comprehensive journals, Nature and Science, as examples, and regarding the journal impact factor as a rough index of journal academic influence, this article proposes a way of weighting impact factors of citing journals with their citing frequencies so that the academic influence of journals can be evaluated by their quantified citation images.
