Research on Academic Influence of High Altmetrics Sci-tech Papers

This paper introduced a fairness test to overcome citation biases caused by time windows. The authors used papers with high Altmetrics index as samples and selected articles adjacent to them in the same issue of the scientific journal as references. This paper picked 273 papers from Altmetric.com and Web of Science, and analyzed their Altmetric score and citation counts. The results showed that Altmetrics and citation counts represented different interests among readers upon the papers; news outlets had the most obvious impact on Altmetric score; high Altmetrics papers also had high academic influence. This suggested that Altmetrics could predict to some extent if a paper will have high citation counts.
