The paper describes the necessity of academic library involvement in Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) from the development trends of professional associations and latest progress of theoretical studies, and explains the feasibility of this practice from the perspectives of universities and MOOC providers. Meanwhile, it reviews the study about roles of foreign academic libraries as information guiders, copyrighted content clearing, information literacy training, course production and management, service innovation in MOOC environment respectively, to provide references and enlightenment for the development of academic libraries in China.
