Evaluation of the Niche Breadth on Provincial Archives in China and the Recommendations

This paper defines the niche breadth of comprehensive archives in the principle of niche breadth. Taking the provincial comprehensive archives at all levels in every province as basic units, it measures out their niche breadth with the data from Chinese Archives Yearbook (2010). According to the measurement data, it finds the niche breadth of provincial comprehensive archives in China has the features of stepwise distribution, spatial layout uneven and overall breadth narrow. Finally, based on the experiment results, this paper proposes 9 recommendations on adjusting China's comprehensive archives' niche from levels of government and comprehensive archives.
