Abstract

The data of 1390 articles on physics, chemistry, sociology, immunology from Article-Level Metrics in PLoS ONE is collected and major dimensions of scientific evaluation are analyzed by virtue of principal components analysis. The results show that three dimensions can disclose 80% of the academic impact of scientific publications but one-dimensional space describes 50% of the information with the loss of the other 50%. The three dimensions are respectively named the dimension of citation, sharing and usage. Thus it reveals that the traditional citation-based assessment is biased, but the scientific impact evaluation has a multi-dimensional structure.
