A Visual Study on the Contribution of Research Institutions to the Emerging Themes：Taking Chinese and American LIS Institutions as Examples

A weighting approach for the emerging themes was presented and a method of measuring and visualizing the contribution of scientific research institutions to the emerging themes was established. We collected the publications by eighty-seven Chinese and American library and information science (LIS) research institutions during 2001 and 2012 in the EI database. The contribution of the investigated institutions to the emerging themes was calculated and quantified. The Treemap technique, an information visualization method, was used to analyze the contribution of the investigated research institution to the emerging themes.
